Here’s What Coffee Does to Your Skin

What does coffee do to your skin?

If you’re brewing a pot of coffee every morning and tossing a filter’s worth of used grounds in the trash, you’re doing it all wrong. Can your daily ultimate pick-me-up also lift your skin to heights you’ve never reached before? The simple answer here is… yes! (thankfully so) The fastest way to healing stretch marks, fighting cellulite and tightening skin is sitting right in your cupboard at no added cost to you. You’re welcome.

Here’s where the magic happens:

1. Coffee grounds soften your skin extremely well.

Coffee seeds are Mother Nature’s best exfoliator for gently banishing the dead skin that makes you look like a crumpled old soul. Coffee scrubs don’t rely on harsh chemicals or potentially harmful ingredients, such as sugar or sand, to perform this. In turn, your skin’s most important barrier is protected. With a smoother, more even-toned surface, your skin is better able to absorb the next step of your skincare routine, making it more effective and beneficial to your delicate canvas.

2. Coffee gets your blood flowing.

As if that first sip of the day doesn’t prove this enough, gently circulating caffeinated grounds into your skin help to stimulate overall circulation. While you’re flushing out toxins, you’re also minimizing uneven texture and stretch marks. Talk about a double-whammy! To get the best results, lather it on in the shower, as the warm water will help it absorb better for quicker, noticeable results.

3. The best part of waking up, is also the aroma in your cup.

Inhaling coffee’s aroma, before even sipping it, can perk you up. Open your coffee scrub, take a few deep breaths and feel the magic within. Trust me.

4. Combine your favorite oils with it.

If you’re an avid exfoliator, you may have a love-hate relationship with your skin. While you’re ridding yourself of dead skin, if you’re over-doing it, you risk ridding yourself of all the important nutrients and oils your skin actually needs, too. Try mixing your coffee scrub with your favorite botanical nourishment (almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, vitamin E) for added hydration.

5. The miracle for puffy eyes.

Caffeine reduces swelling and inflammation. As a topical treatment, this skin concern particularly is targeted faster by constricting blood vessels under the skin. Eye creams containing caffeine are highly effective due to the far fewer layers of skin they have to penetrate as opposed to the thick layers a cellulite treatment would have. The best part is, it's easy to make!

Here's what you'll need:

- 3/4 c. freshly ground coffee
- 1 c. of pure olive oil or coconut oil

Combine the ingredients together, shake it like a salt shaker, wash your face and apply. Massage into the skin for about 3-4 minutes in the under eye area. This is a sensitive area due to the thin layer of skin. Getting too close to the eye can in turn seep underneath the skin and get into your eye and cause irritation. Try to keep it on the upper cheek bone into the temple area. Once your time is up, remove the mixture and reap the benefits!

Rest assured, your daily cup is benefiting you from the inside-out. So, brew that delicious, intense cup you’ve been looking forward to since last night, and don’t be afraid to rub it in afterwards. Literally.
