Is Drinking Coffee Good For You?

Coffee is Good for Your Health

Coffee is good for many things: it wakes you up and keeps you fueled for the madness that is your day, it keeps you happy and in good spirits, and it makes it so that you don’t want to punch every pest of a person that crosses your path. But coffee is good for more than just keeping your cool, and actually has a lot of health benefits associated with it.

Health Benefits of Coffee

We love delivering good news, and today we have it in spades. Here’s how your daily brew is doing more for you than just fueling your grind:

  1. It Can Help You Live Longer: That’s right, your favorite sidekick is actually the secret to living a long and healthy life. Studies have shown that people who drink coffee regularly can add years onto their lives. Cheers to longevity.

  1. Reduces Risk of Certain Cancers: Research has shown that coffee consumption may reduce risk of developing certain cancers, such as colorectal and liver cancer. This is due to coffee’s antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that protect cells and inhibit tumor growth – cheers to that.

  1. Rich in Antioxidants: Speaking of antioxidants, coffee is full of them. These antioxidants protect cells from damage, reduce inflammation and prevent chronic diseases. Take that fruit.

  1. Good For Gut Health: Research has shown that coffee drinkers have a specific bacteria strain called L. asaccharolyticus present which promotes a healthy gut and has a positive effect on the growth of good bacteria.

  1. Helps Weight Loss: Coffee can help aid weight management and even weight loss by boosting metabolism, enhancing fat burning and stimulating the nervous system.

  1. Enhances Cognitive Function: Everyone knows you think better after your first morning cup, however coffee is a natural stimulant that affects the central nervous system and releases dopamine and norepinephrine. This improves mood (duh), memory, reaction time, and cognitive function.

  1. Supports Heart Health: Moderate coffee consumption is also linked to a reduced risk of heart disease, due to it’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

  1. Improves Physical Performance: The caffeine in coffee can enhance your physical performance by increasing adrenaline levels, which prepares your body for exertion. So ditch those chemical filled pre-workouts and give good old coffee a chance. Your body will thank you.

How Much Coffee Is Good For You?

Although coffee does seem like this magical elixir that can solve all of your problems, it should still be enjoyed in moderation to maximize all the health benefits. According to the European Food Safety Authority’s review of caffeine safety, a safe coffee intake can be defined as three to five cups per day. That's enough to fuel your day, fire up your brain, and keep your body thriving — without tipping you into jittery chaos.

The bottom line: it turns out your coffee obsession isn't just keeping you awake — it's keeping you alive and thriving. So go ahead, pour yourself another cup— your body (and your taste buds) will thank you.
