The best black coffee barbecue
In case you didn’t know, just like us, coffee has some secrets up its sleeve. I’m about to give you the dirt, so listen closely. Here’s the secret: Next time you slap something on the grill, match it with some black coffee BBQ sauce and don’t stop til’ the fireworks drop!
This recipe is easy and straightforward, and tastes absolutely delicious. No matter if you're making chicken, ribs, or more, this sauce is the perfect pairing. After it's made, you can store it in the fridge for up to two weeks in a covered container. But with how good it tastes, it's definitely not going to last that long.

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan
Take all 11 ingredients and put them directly in a saucepan — just make sure the garlic cloves are peeled and crushed, and your hot dry mustard is mixed with water before you toss it in the pan.
Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes
Let the ingredients simmer on low heat — if you use too high of heat, you'll risk burning the ingredients and having everything stick to the pan. Stir occasionally.
Let it cool off
Before you blend everything together, let it cool for about 10 minutes.
Puree in a blender or food processor until smooth
Make sure everything is smooth, and use the puree setting on your blender or food processor. Once it's done, refrigerate for later use or put it right on whatever you're making!
- ½ cup brewed coffee
- 1 cup ketchup
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- ¾ cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 onion, peeled and chopped, about 1 cup
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
- 2 tablespoons dark molasses
- 2 tablespoons hot dry mustard, mixed with 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons cumin, ground
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
