Here’s why you should replace regular flour with coffee flour

A healthy superfood alternative to flour is making its way up the ranks, and it’s made with coffee. Coffee flour is made up of the leftover fruit around a coffee bean, also known as cherry pulp, and there are a few reasons why you should give it a try.  

  1. Coffee flour reduces food waste.

The fruit of the coffee bean is typically left unused and thrown out. Using the fruit for coffee flour both reduces waste and adds another stream of income for coffee farmers.

  1. And it’s good for you, too.

The coffee fruit used to make coffee flour is packed full of healthy stuff, putting it into the “superfood” category. Coffee flour has multiple nutrients your body needs including antioxidants, fiber, and protein. As a bonus, the fruit has less sugar than other super fruits like acai and blueberries. It’s also gluten-free, and is great for baking.

  1. But, it won’t replace coffee.

The caffeine content in coffee flour is like the amount in dark chocolate, so don’t go replacing your cup of Joe just yet. Instead of having a strong coffee taste, it’s more likely to have a fruity, floral flavor. But hey, if you want all your food to taste like a latte, other coffee flours made with the coffee beans itself, ground to flour, do exist!
