What are the health benefits of ginger?
We're firing up the cauldron and brewing something special here at Death Wish Coffee Company. That's right — fall is just 50 days away, which means we're preparing to release our Cauldron-Aged Pumpkin Coffee.
But this isn't your regular pumpkin spiced coffee, which comes with a stigma. Most companies use artificial pumpkin flavors for their pumpkin coffee — talk about a bunch of hocus pocus.
Instead, our pumpkin coffee potion is something that even Professor Severus Snape would be impressed with. We use fresh ingredients inspired by our homemade chai, a staple in the coffee shop that Death Wish Coffee was created in. Since many of the chai spices are similar to pumpkin, the opportunity to make such a unique blend was too good to pass.
We take spices from around the world such as cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger, and simmer them for about 12 hours. Then, we mix the batch of chai with unroasted coffee beans and let them age for 10-12 days. Once the beans are dry enough to roast, we finish off the potion with our signature Death Wish Coffee roasting process.
To celebrate each unique, fresh ingredient we toss in our cauldron, we wanted to explore the health benefits of each and how it's used in foods around the world. First ingredient: Fresh ginger.
What're the health benefits of ginger?
Ginger, a flowering plant that originated in China, has a very long history of use in forms of traditional and alternative medicine. It's used to help digestion, reduce nausea, fight the flu and common cold, and more.
There is no flavor in the world like ginger — it's zesty and spicy, but has a certain mildness that is sweet. This powerful combination is why it can be used in so many different recipes.
Ginger is packed with gingerol, a chemical compound that contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. When you combine it with coffee, which also has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, it's a match made in heaven.
Because of its chemical composition, ginger is great for fighting nausea or muscle pain and soreness. Ginger has also been proven to help:
