We visited the legendary Buena Vista Cafe to get a taste of a true Irish classic and bring it back to you. Now you can have a traditional Irish Coffee with up to double the amount of caffeine, and loads more flavor.
Since it's always best when made one at a time, this recipe serves one.
What you need:
- Death Wish Coffee, brewed
- Irish Whiskey
- 1/2 cup heavy cream OR 1 can of unsweetened coconut milk*
- A pinch of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon of hot (preferably near boiling) water
- Mason Jar, frozen for 15 minutes
- Stemmed Glass
*Refrigerate coconut milk for at least six hours. Replace teaspoon of maple syrup with 2 tablespoons confectioners sugar.
1. Make frothed cream
It's easy, don't be lazy and buy it. Shake heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of maple syrup in freezing cold mason jar for two minutes straight. Freeze for up to 15 minutes before serving.
2. Brew Death Wish Coffee
Brew it as strong as ever. I prefer french press for this recipe, and I use the excess water from the kettle to preheat my glass in the next step. A pot of coffee will work well, too.
3. Heat and sweeten your glass
Melt brown sugar into hot water and swish. Since the whipped cream that we made is only lightly sweetened, this is your opportunity to add more sugar if you enjoy very sweet coffee.
4. Add coffee
Pour your glass 3/4 of they way full with Death Wish Coffee. That should leave the perfect amount of space for whiskey and cream
5. Add the desired amount of whiskey
Depending on your glass size, and how much you'd like to have: Use about one ounce of whiskey to 8 ounces of coffee.
6. Have a swig. You deserve it*.
*Skip this step if you bought your own whipped cream, cheater.
7. Add cream
Spoon whipped cream over the back of your spoon atop your coffee and whiskey mixture until it looks like it's about to fall over. If you go too quickly, you will end up with the coffee and cream mixing together. Be patient!
