Coffee resolutions that you can keep in 2019

8 coffee resolutions to make for 2019

Brace yourselves: the "new year, new me" posts are about to take over your social media feeds for about the next month. January — the time for a fresh, new start as good as opening a brand new bag of coffee.

If you're still looking for a New Year's Resolution, we're here to talk about what really matters: coffee, of course.

Whether you're looking to save a little money next year or to be healthier, here are some coffee-inspired New Year's resolutions.

1. Ditch the extra additives

If you're looking to be a little healthier in 2019, one of the easiest things you can do is ditch the extra additives in your coffee. Cream and sugar adds unnecessary calories, and the artificial ingredients don't help either. If you're looking for a straightforward method on how to switch to black coffee, try these four steps.

2. Make more coffee at home

Making coffee at home will save you tons of money down the road. Three dollars every day might not seem like much, but that totals more than $1,000 a year just on coffee. Compare that to making coffee at home, where a cup of coffee will cost you an average of a mere 25 cents.

3. No more disposable coffee cups

About 60 million disposable paper cups end up in landfills each year. Invest in a sturdy travel mug to bring with you to the coffee shop. Most coffee shops will pour your morning fix right into your reusable mug — and some even offer a discount for using a reusable mug.

4. Drink one cup of water for every cup of coffee

Hydration is key, people. For every cup of coffee you have, make sure to drink a cup of water with it. This will help keep your body hydrated and will keep your body from experiencing coffee jitters or stomach aches.

5. Make coffee for someone else

Coffee is the key to happiness and can even make you like people more. Take the time to sit down with a friend and chat over a cup of coffee — no phones or no distractions.

6. Don't waste your coffee

Only brew what you'll drink! Instead of pouring that leftover coffee down the drain, try reheating it or using a brew method where you can easily control how much you brew. I recommend a French Press or a Chemex for single serving.

7. Learn more about where your coffee comes from

Is your coffee organic or Fair Trade? Research where your coffee comes from to ensure you always know exactly where our coffee is grown, who grew it, how workers treated, and the benefits they receive through this unique direct trade.

Learning more about where coffee comes from will also help broaden your horizons to try different brews from around the world.

8. Befriend your barista

If you make frequent stops to your local shop (remember that reusable cup!) befriend the barista behind the counter. Chances are you'll see them a lot, and being a little polite and making friendly conversation can go a long way. After all, they're giving you your morning fix each and every day.

Happy 2019, my caffeinated friends! Mugs up to new adventures, challenges, and copious amounts of coffee.
